When we think about a body "detox", our mind almost certainly makes a connection with the functions of the liver, which filters whatever enters, our bodies, by way of food, drinks and the very air we breath.

Our modern life style has created an environment where the proper functioning of our liver, is at risk. Pollution, stress, drugs, cigarettes and alcohol all contribute to the toxins going through our body.

Every now and then we need to clean up our act. Signs of infertility will bring these truths to the fore more than ever, and the benefits of yoga should not be underestimated.

Infertility health

We spend time each day keeping our homes spotless, but keeping our body free of toxins, is often at the bottom of our list of priorities. During infertility this priority will change, as your body needs to be in peak condition, firstly to overcome infertility and some of its causes, like low sperm count and endometriosis. Additionally the mom-to-be will also want her body to be healthy, to incubate and grow a healthy fetus.

A combination of ujjayi breathing and a set of twists from different yoga positions, is a great and natural way to achieve and maintain a cleaner body. A short sequence of exercise, based on Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga poses are recommended.

By performing these twisting yoga poses, you will massage your liver and abdominal organs, stimulate blood circulation, and allow oxygenated blood to revive your organs to an optimal state.

Victorious breath - yoga breathing (ujjayi breath)

A deep inhale and exhale through your nose only, victorious breath activates your inner core and helps you to burn toxins.

How: Close your mouth and inhale only through your nose. Gently constrict the back of the throat, creating a soft snoring sound, without using your vocal cords. Then breath out evenly through your nose.

This type of breathing helps rebalance your hormones, necessary for ovulation health.

This type of breathing exercise should be done every day, to help the optimal functioning of your lymphatic system, which assists in removing toxins from the body. The increased intake of oxygen also helps your brain, muscles, digestive system and cardiovascular system function properly. All increased functionality will support fertility.

Yoga and infertility

This form of exercise may be new, or you may frequently perform a series of yoga sequences. Whether you are a beginner or proficient in this style, yoga is a wonderful form of exercise, for both male and female.

Detoxing is as much about clearing your mind and spirit, as it is about cleansing your body!

The many styles and types of yoga poses are briefly covered in the table below, but the benefits you enjoy, will support your lifestyle changes.

Yoga and infertility may not seem connected, but the benefits of Yoga are spiritual, leaving you calm, relaxed and energized, with a warm afterglow. Here are some of the styles of yoga, with suitability for various types of people:
